Hyperlocal Publishing

‘How does creative citizenship generate value for communities within a changing media landscape and how can this pursuit of value be intensified, propagated and sustained?’

This is the question being asked by a major AHRC/EPSRC-funded project, Community, Media and the Creative Citizen, within which our research team is playing a key part. The project examines the relationship between the creative activities of citizens and the creative economy.

Here at BCU we lead the strand of research investigating Hyperlocal News Publishing with Dave Harte acting as co-investigator and Jerome Turner as full-time researcher.

The work in this strand involves both quantitative and qualitative work and early research findings about the scale and scope of the Hyperlocal Publishing has already been published by Ofcom. The research will also involve practice-based research.

The project is led by Cardiff University and other academic partners are: the University of Birmingham, Open University, the Royal College of Art and the University of West of England.
