Who We Are
Interactive Cultures brings together senior academics from the Birmingham School of Media who are actively involved in understanding how communities are built through new and emerging media channels. We explore the ways in which groups utilise interactive technologies, and use that knowledge to help professional, commercial and community bodies extend their work online.
We work particularly closely with the music, radio, and journalism organisations of all kinds to develop new modes of working and communicating.
Our current projects include:
- AHRC Knowledge Transfer Fellowship in New Strategies for Radio and Music Organisations
- AHRC BBC Radio Listeners Online
- Social Music Media [with Veronica Holdings]
- CETL Interactive Technologies for Active Learning
Earlier Projects include:
- Online Music Enterprise
- Regional Music Economies
- New Broadcast Technologies for Development
Knowledge Exchange
Our work is part of a wider strategy by the Birmingham School of Media to make arts and humanities research useful in commercial and cultural projects, and to ensure academics engage with commerce and culture. Our partners have improved their business models, developed new insights, or instigated new cultural strategies as a result of their work with us. We integrate our research into our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and into our support for research degrees.
We provide a consultancy service for partners from businesses and organisations in the cultural sector, developing new modes of working and informing public policy. We demonstrate creative online techniques, assist our partners in developing new strategies, and work on online prototypes.
