Over the past year I have been working within the Interactive Cultures team as a junior web developer, providing online support for a number of knowledge transfer projects alongside Jon Hickman. I’m now leaving the team to go travelling in Australia. One of these projects includes the Birmingham Music Archive established by Jez Collins to “Celebrate, preserve and share Birmingham’s music heritage”. The BMA’s website forms a space where both the general public and industry experts can meet to share both opinions and experiences of the music scene in Birmingham.
Another project which I have worked on is the Mo Radio website, which is going live shortly. Mo Radio is a community radio station which serving Moseley and is part of Sam Coley’s comitment to the AHRC KTF project. I have also supported a number of teaching and learning projects within the Birmingham School of Media, such as developing a publishing platform for MA Broadcast Journalism students.
Throughout my time in the “treehouse” (as we call the research & knowledge transfer office), I have learnt many skills that are fundamental to web designers, as well as learning more about the significance of social media like Twitter. Using WordPress has also been central to my technical development, with many of my projects being based on the WordPress platform. What’s more, the BMA WordPress theme was also designed and developed by myself.
