Saw this flagged up on Twitter by Andrew Dubber. I worked in Vinyl Dreams from around 87-91: good times – true that it was a great place to hang out.
Also agree that the Barrel Organ was a great venue, sad day when it closed down. Haven’t lived in Brum since 1992 and I hear a lot of those old venues have gone – most recently I hear the Jug Of Ale. Many fond memories of gigs at the likes of The Barrel Organ, Sinatras, Edwards No.8, The Powerhouse, The Odeon, The Hummingbird, Goldwyns, The Cod Club (Pirahnas) and probably a few more my poor booze addled brain can’t remember.
Re: Head Of David – Dustbowl and the first album still sound great although the best thing they did (IMHO) was the four track ‘The Saveana Mixes’ 12″.
Favourite old school Birmingham band is a tricky one. Dexys and Sabbath are obviously up there, I’d also offer up The Lilac Time. Don’t forget Steve Winwood / Spencer Davis Group / Traffic.
Head of David of course play at this year’s Supersonic!
Thanks for the comment Nick – if you have not done so, do go to the BMA site and leave more comments like this as they will be much appreciated.
